AMD FidelityFX Super Resolution 2.0 is coming in Q2 2022

AMD hat mit FidelityFX Super Resolution (FSR) a competitor for Nvidia’s Deep Learning Super Sampling (DLSS) at the start. While Nvidia relies on machine learning, FSR is a much simpler spatial upscaling. On the other hand, Nvidia’s technology only works with GeForce GPUs. FSR serves as an open technology that can be used with almost all graphics solutions. In the second quarter of 2022 should now start FSR 2.0.

This will also involve switching from spatial upscaling to temporal upscaling, which is more complex and generally produces better results. AMD is already saying that FSR 2.0 will outperform FSR 1.0 on all quality settings. It includes improved anti-aliasing and can look as good or even better than the native resolution.

However, AMD continues to omit machine learning. In the end you should wait and see what the results are. AMD is already dealing with all sorts of comparison images and full-bodied statements, but the results could be very different depending on the game. The following video from the game “Deathloop” may provide a rough impression.

AMD will openly provide the source code of FSR 2.0 via GPUOpen. The manufacturer wants to present further details about FSR 2.0 at the Game Developers Conference 2022 (GDC).
