According to our Flemish colleagues from the Nieuwsblad, a man who had a weapon in his pocket threatened to commit an attack during the Miss Belgium competition this Saturday evening at the Proximus Theater in De Panne. “An attack was avoided, something that could have ended very badly,” confirms Eric Van Der Sypt of the federal prosecutor’s office at the Nieuwsblad.
This afternoon, the Limburg police reportedly intercepted a message from the companion of a man who threatened to carry out an attack during the election this Saturday evening. A large police force has been put in place. In the evening, the police managed to intercept a suspect, who came to the event in a rental Tesla.
He was able to be intercepted on his arrival by the police and arrested, before being taken to the nearest police station. “The man was arrested with a weapon in his pocket and a weapon in his vehicle”, specifies Eric Van Der Sypt of the federal prosecutor’s office to our colleagues from the Nieuwsblad. The suspect also had a bulletproof vest.
All the guests, who arrived around 6:30 p.m., did not see the commotion because the man had already been arrested. However, once in the room, they were all evacuated, tell us our special envoys.
