An Egyptian village inhabited only by women, and men are forbidden to enter it • Al Marsad Newspaper

Al-Marsad newspaper: The village of Al-Samaha in Aswan, Upper Egypt, has a unique feature, as only women live in the village, and men are not allowed to enter it.

In this regard, the Egyptian “Sada El Balad” website published a report on the unique village.

The village of Al-Samaha is affiliated to the villages of the Wadi Al-Sa’ida project in Edfu, which is the only village in the Republic, which has been fully allocated to 313 families for female breadwinners, divorced and widowed, and currently includes more than two thousand women and girls.

The village of Al-Samaha is about 120 km from the city of Aswan. It was established in 1998 within the “Wadi Al-Sa’ida” project. It is intended for divorced and widowed women, and is considered a women’s agricultural community that represents a model for the struggle of the authentic Egyptian woman to take care of her family.

Many women in the village of Al-Samaha indicated that they met the conditions for benefiting from the village project because they are widows and do not have agricultural possessions. They received the house and the plot of land in the village, where they reclaimed part of the plot of land allocated to them.

While Sanaa Abdel Sattar said that most of the women in the village of Al-Samaha are keen to get up early, then wake their children to go to school after preparing breakfast for them, while the mother pulls her tools to the agricultural land allotted to her, and everyone works in an agricultural community that plants and harvests.

She added that the women in the village of Al-Samaha have lived in this community for years, during which they used to rely on themselves in managing living affairs. Especially during the school holidays.
