An important statement from the Food and Drug Administration regarding the fact that “plastic rice” exists in the local markets in the Kingdom

Al-Marsad newspaper: The Food and Drug Authority has once more denied the existence of a plastic rice product in the local markets, stressing that it is taking all necessary measures to ensure that this type of rice does not enter the market.

She explained that she had withdrawn samples from some products that were rumored to be plastic rice, and referred them to her laboratories to be subjected to physical examination and to ascertain the natural properties of rice.

She pointed out that the results of analyzing the rice samples showed that they conform to the relevant technical regulations and Gulf specifications.

There were rumors circulating regarding the existence of a plastic rice product in the market that is made from a mixture of potatoes and sweet potatoes, in addition to rice flavoring and industrial gum.
