Palme d’or at the Cannes Film Festival 2023, the film “Anatomy of a fall”, directed by Justine Triet, is released this Wednesday at the cinema.

Three months after winning the Palme d’or, “Anatomy of a fall”, by director Justine Triet, arrives this Wednesday, September 22 in dark rooms. A trial film, it analyzes the balance of power within a couple of wealthy artists.

More precisely, this 2h30 feature film follows the story of a family, Sandra, Samuel and Daniel, their 11-year-old visually impaired son, living isolated in the mountains, until the death of the father, found dead in front of the chalet. A year later, the mother’s trial unfolds before the eyes of the child, who sees justice dissect their family life.

“She looks strong and that makes her suspicious”

On the casting side, Justine Triet called on the German actress Sandra Hüller, who notably played in “Toni Erdmann” and “Sibyl”, Justine Triet’s previous film. Sandra Hüller plays the role of the mother, “a character who assumes her freedom, her sexuality, her life choices. She looks strong and that makes her suspicious,” the 45-year-old director told AFP.

Scripted by Arthur Harari, companion of Justine Triet and director of “Onoda, 10,000 nights in the jungle”, “Anatomy of a fall” is built like “a puzzle”. This film, continued the filmmaker, “is like going into the brain of this woman, trying to understand who she is as a woman, as a mother, as an artist”, with her flaws.

On screen, we also find Antoine Reinartz, who plays the Advocate General, and Swann Arlaud, César for Best Actor for “Petit Paysan” in 2018, who plays the defendant’s lawyer.

As a reminder, Justine Triet is only the third woman to win the most prestigious prize in the Cannes competition, and the second Frenchwoman after Julia Ducournau in 2021 for “Titane”.
