Estância Santa Thereza, Cabanha Santo Antão, Genética Progresso, Estância Tradição and Fazenda da Barragem are responsible for the best Angus bulls in the feed efficiency test

“The breeders are to be congratulated on the result of the test, animals with excellent body condition and development will be delivered, all the breeders who invested are super satisfied with the test and we can only thank everyone who trusted us to take the measurements. We will have a very important DEP on food efficiency to be launched at Expointer. It was an excellent test, and we are also grateful for the partnership with Embrapa, which once again conducted the test in an exquisite way”, celebrates the president of the Associação Brasileira de Angus, Mariana Tellechea.

Angus manager’s word

The technical manager of Angus, Mateus Pivato, says that the animals performed excellently throughout the race and that, without a doubt, they are important tools for the dissemination of improved genetics from a food point of view. “By using bulls selected according to Feed Consumption, breeders reduce feed costs and consequently increase the profitability of the activity, since more than 50% of production expenses are with feed”, he adds.

The technical director of Angus, Rogério Rotta Assis, also commented that the animals are doing very well. “The conditions in which we submitted the animals were excellent, this test is very important because as we advance in genetic improvement, we incorporate new characteristics. It was like this with the ultrasound of carcasses that today we have a very large number of animals evaluated and now we have this technology that allows us to measure the food consumption of our animals”.

Embrapa Livestock

According to the test coordinator and analyst at Embrapa Pecuária Sul, Roberto Collares, the purpose of the test is to identify the characteristic of feed efficiency in the animals’ DNA. “The Angus breed has stood out in assessments regarding feed efficiency, demonstrating its excellence in transforming the diet offered into quality meat. And this test was no different. We were very happy with the results obtained”. The test also measured the animals’ methane emissions, the results of which will be released soon.
