“Anti-Democratic Development”
AfD donor wants his 100,000 euros back

Two years ago, an entrepreneur donated 100,000 euros to the AfD Thuringia to promote democracy. After that, however, the Berliner notes that the party is undemocratic. The donor is now demanding his money back. The AfD wants to defend itself against the lawsuit.

The real estate entrepreneur Christian Krawinkel demands 100,000 euros from the Thuringian AfD, as reported by “Bild am Sonntag”. The Berliner had made the large donation to the state association at the beginning of 2020. According to the report, he is now suing the Erfurt district court for repayment and interest.

The lawsuit is justified by the fact that the donation should only be used to promote democracy. But at the state association of Thuringia, since the time of the donation, there has been an anti-democratic development, according to the complaint. “My donation should serve to improve democracy,” Krawinkel told the newspaper. “However, after the AfD became increasingly undemocratic and anti-constitutional, it didn’t deserve my donation.”

As evidence, his lawyers cite the fact that the Office for the Protection of the Constitution classified the so-called wing within the AfD as right-wing extremist shortly after the donation. The leader of the “wing” is Björn Höcke from the Thuringian state association. That too anti-transgender behavior of AfD member of parliament Beatrix von Storch the lawyers call the Green MP Tessa Ganserer.

Refugees from Ukraine should get money

Krawinkel does not want to keep the 100,000 euros, but wants to give them to Ukraine refugees, it is said. The Thuringian AfD, however, is opposed. A spokesman told the newspaper: “The national association will defend itself against this lawsuit.”

According to previous media reports, the reason for the donation was the fuss surrounding the prime ministerial election with the help of the AfD. According to the Bundestag, the party received the money two days after the FDP politician Thomas Kemmerich was elected prime minister in the Erfurt state parliament, also with votes from the AfD parliamentary group. Kemmerich later resigned.

Before that, spender Krawinkel appeared as a buyer of Boris Becker trophies as part of a foreclosure auction. Allegedly in order to give them back to the former Wimbledon winner, the entrepreneur had bought memorabilia from the tennis star for around 500,000 euros.
