Antony Starr (The Boys) sentenced to prison in Spain

The 46-year-old New Zealand comedian who plays one of the leading roles in the superhero series broadcast on Amazon Prime Video was arrested last Wednesday in Spain.

Antony Starr has been in Alicante, southern Spain, for several weeks filming an action movie directed by Guy Ritchie alongside Jake Gyllenhaal. The 47-year-old New Zealand comedian, known for his role as Sheriff Lucas Hood in the series Banshee and more recently in that of the narcissistic superhero The Protector in The Boys, was arrested last Wednesday for assaulting a 21-year-old at a bar in the Spanish city.

According to the website Information , police responded shortly after 2 a.m. after Antony Starr punched the individual twice and smashed a glass in his face. The latter was evacuated by ambulance, bleeding, and hospitalized to have four stitches placed in the left brow bone. Immediately taken into custody by the police, the actor was, according to our colleagues, intoxicated and would not have supported the young man trying to channel his aggressiveness.

Thursday afternoon, during an immediate appearance, the Spanish justice sentenced Antony Starr to one year in prison and 5,000 euros in damages to be paid to the victim. The New Zealand comedian pleaded guilty to the assault charges against him. As local law permits, in the absence of a criminal record, the judge agreed to suspend the Wellington native’s prison sentence for two years on the condition that he commit no further offenses during this period.
