Apple patents “AirTag fitness” with high precision

Currently, Apple’s product with the greatest connection to health and wellness is the Apple Watch, although the iPhone and the company’s other products also have functions related to the fitness world. A recently discovered Apple patent, however, may indicate the company’s intentions to enable data tracking with even more precision.

According to Patently Apple, it is a wearable tracker, which could be placed on various parts of the body, as well as communicate with the iPhone and other devices. In this way, the product would be able to monitor variables such as posture, sun exposure, physical therapy, training, medical issues and others with a higher level of specificity than the Apple Watch.

In order to be able to detect so much data, the device would have several types of sensors and, like the AirTag, it could also determine the user’s location, opening space for the creation of automations, for example.

The schematics above show the construction design of the device, which could be made from materials such as plastic, glass, ceramics and metal. As said, the tracker could be used on various parts of the body, such as the wrist, ankle or knee, in order to have different applications depending on where it is placed.

What is interesting — at least on the desirable level — is the vast list of possible uses for the device. By placing it on the knee, for example, the user could monitor the force applied when pressing it, while the positioning on the legs could present great potential in the areas of health and sports, with detection capabilities and possibilities for developers greater than than in Watch.

As remembered the 9to5Mac, devices of this type are not exactly new, so the challenge seems to be to build hardware that monitors the data efficiently. It makes sense that Apple would be developing something like this considering the company’s efforts in healthcare, although the patent isn’t exactly a concrete indication of the development.

It is always good to remember, therefore, that this is just an industrial property registered by Apple engineers. Therefore, there is no certainty as to the possibility of the patent becoming an actual product. The registration was made under the number EP4175534 at the European Patent Office and only became public this year, although it was carried out in 2020.
