Apple’s New Touchscreen MacBook Pro, M6 MacBooks, iMac, and iPad Mini Now Available

Apple flooded stores with new products this week. The company launched its first-ever touch-enabled MacBook Pro, alongside an updated iMac and a redesigned iPad mini. Novinky reported the lineup now includes 14-inch and 16-inch Pro models with OLED screens and a standard 14-inch MacBook Pro with an M6 chip.

The New Touchscreen MacBook Pro’s Real Trade-offs

The new MacBook Pro models feature a PROLED XDR display with touch input for the first time. Users can now scroll, zoom, and manipulate content directly with their fingers on the screen.

Apple redesigned the hinge to hold the touchscreen steady at any angle. The panel uses tandem OLED technology with two self-emissive layers. This setup delivers true blacks, high contrast, and peak brightness of up to 2000 nits. The display also includes the Dynamic Island feature from iPhones.

Apple’s First Touchscreen MacBook Pro Has a BIG Problem…

Both models are lighter and thinner than their predecessors. The 14-inch version weighs 1.38 kilograms, the 16-inch version 1.82 kilograms, with weight varying by configuration. Inside, they use professional M5 Pro or M5 Max chips.

The touch-enabled MacBook Pro starts at 84,990 Czech koruna for the 14-inch M5 Pro model. The 16-inch M5 Pro begins at 99,990 koruna. With the M5 Max, prices jump to 131,990 koruna for the 14-inch and 141,990 koruna for the 16-inch. Additional memory or storage increases the cost further.

Federico Viticci of MacStories confirmed that users can disable the touch layer entirely through accessibility settings. This addresses concerns about fingerprints and accidental touches during work. This feature allows the new model to function as a traditional MacBook Pro when desired.

A Dual Strategy for MacBook Pros

Apple is currently selling two distinct versions of the MacBook Pro. The new touch models with OLED screens sit alongside existing models with mini-LED displays and the same M5 Pro and M5 Max chips. This creates a unique situation for buyers.

The non-touch models serve as a more affordable option.

Maintaining two separate product lines requires parallel development, manufacturing, and marketing efforts. Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman suggests this situation is not sustainable long-term. He predicts Apple will eventually unify the higher-end MacBook Pro lineup around the touchscreen models, though no official end date for the non-touch versions has been announced.

The next generation of MacBook Pros, expected in 2027, will reportedly feature M7 Pro and M7 Max chips with enhanced AI capabilities. These models are also anticipated to adopt the lighter, slimmer design of the current touch Pro models. Gurman previously suggested the base 14-inch MacBook Pro could receive this refresh in the first half of 2027.

MacBook Pro Gets M6 Chip Upgrade

Apple also introduced a 14-inch MacBook Pro with the new M6 chip. This model retains the non-touch Liquid Retina XDR display. The M6 chip features 12 CPU and 12 GPU cores, offering improved performance for photo editing, video editing, and on-device AI tasks.

The base configuration includes 16GB of memory and a 1TB SSD, priced at 57,990 koruna. Memory can be expanded to 24 or 32GB, and storage up to 4TB. Apple claims up to 24 hours of battery life for video streaming, though this will be lower during intensive workloads.

The iMac also received the M6 chip update. The 24-inch all-in-one desktop now offers faster SSD storage and Wi-Fi 7 connectivity. It remains available in seven colors with matching keyboard and mouse. The base model with a 10-core CPU and GPU starts at 44,990 koruna, while a 12-core version begins at 49,990 koruna.

iPad Mini Gains OLED Display

The most affordable new product is the completely redesigned iPad mini. It features a larger 8.5-inch OLED display in the same physical footprint as its predecessor. The new body is 5.4 millimeters thick and includes IP67 water and dust resistance.

Performance is handled by the A20 Pro chip. Apple moved the front camera to the center of the longer side, a practical change for video calls when the phone is turned horizontally. The iPad mini is available in dark ink or starlight white with 128, 256, or 512GB storage options.
