Following a difficult start to the campaign marked by three consecutive defeats, volleyball club Arago de Sète finds itself without a single point after three matchdays. Head coach Fulvio Bertini’s squad now has a full week of training ahead to address deep offensive flaws and synchronization issues before their next fixtures.
Sète Struggles with Offensive Roadblocks and Reception
The latest setback arrived Thursday in a defeat against Chaumont at Le Barrou, where the hosts managed zero points and ran into severe offensive roadblocks. Reflecting on the opening set, Bertini noted that the team effectively did not play. In the second frame, Sète held a tie at 24-24 before committing two faults.
The attacking architecture remains heavily disrupted. Lazo has struggled to find a connection with the setter due to a lack of training, while Karlitzek endured a difficult outing against Chaumont, absorbing six aces. Bertini emphasized that high-level reception is the absolute prerequisite for unlocking the club’s offensive scheme through the middle and clearing space for the wing attackers.

A Vital Training Window Ahead
Despite the winless start, the atmosphere inside the club avoids panic. Sète benefits from a break in the early-season calendar, granting the technical staff its first full week of complete squad training. Bertini acknowledges that mental resilience will dictate their trajectory as they prepare for two upcoming away matches.
“Finally, we’ll be able to train with our full squad for the first time before two more away games. The schedule isn’t going to help us, but we don’t have a choice. Mentally, we’ll need to be strong. But the players are 100% committed and recognize that we need to work. They know the importance of the week ahead.”
With player commitment confirmed by the coaching staff, the tactical priority shifts entirely toward stabilizing first-line passing to restore tactical variety in the setter’s playbook.
