Intel has disclosed a new security issue, identified by ID INTEL-SA-00812, which affects the Arc A770 and Arc A750 video cards, that is, some of the most advanced models currently from the brand. Rated a medium severity level, this potential failure could allow denial of service or information disclosure.

These vulnerabilities affect Arc A770 and Arc A750 graphics cards sold between October and December 2022. The advisory apparently indicates that the flaw is not widespread, but only affects batches sold during the mentioned period. In parallel, after a year-long embargo, the chipmaker finally revealed “Downfall”, a vulnerability with significant performance penalties that affects several generations of Intel processors.

The company mentions that there are two problems —the so-called CVE-2022-41984 describes a flaw in the protection mechanism in some Arc A770 and Arc A750 graphics cards where a privileged user could cause a denial of service. On the other hand, the problem identified as CVE-2022-38973 talks about inadequate access control in a scenario where an authenticated user could allow denial of service or information disclosure. In both cases, the user could exploit the vulnerability via local access.

Intel has not confirmed whether or not it will release a firmware update or a software patch to mitigate the vulnerabilities. The chipmaker recommends that consumers who purchased an Arc A770 or Arc A750 board between October and December 2022 contact Intel Product Support in their region for assistance.
