Argentina will suspend the residence permit of Russians who received it through the birth of children and left the country

The Migration Service of Argentina began to suspend the residence permit (permit) for those Russians who received it through the birth of a child and did not stay in the country. This was announced by the head of the migration service of Argentina, Florencia Carignano. According to her, after the suspension of the residence permit, the migration service can seek the cancellation of the residence permit through the courts.

“What we are doing is suspending the residence permit of those Russians who came to get a residence permit because their child is Argentine, but spent more time outside (the country) than inside,” said Florencia Carignano in broadcast on C5N (quote from “RIA Novosti”).

According to her, when considering cases on granting Argentine citizenship, the migration service will submit information to the court that a person’s residence permit has been suspended. “If the court, despite these data, wants to grant citizenship to a person who does not live and did not live in Argentina, this is his business. We are canceling the residence permit,” she added.

Earlier, six Russian women in late pregnancy were denied entry to Argentina. According to the migration service, the women were not allowed into the country due to the fact that they named a false purpose for the visit. The Russians claimed that they came to Argentina for tourism purposes, but, according to the agency, they arrived in the country for “ancestral tourism.” As a result, women were allowed to enter the country by court order.

After the start of the military operation, the flow of Russians who come to Argentina for “ancestral tourism” has increased. According to the law, newborns receive Argentine citizenship by birthright, parents receive a residence permit, in the future they can also obtain citizenship under a simplified procedure. The Russian Embassy in Argentina said that in 2022, from 2,000 to 2,500 Russian women came to the country to give birth. According to the migration service of Argentina, in 2022, about 10 thousand Russian women entered the country for childbirth.
