Art, kitsch and punch attract people to Advent markets

MÜHLVIERTEL. On the second weekend of the short Advent there are also all sorts of contemplative, culinary, craft and pre-Christmas items at markets, stalls and in historic buildings. A selection of the most beautiful markets:

Perwolfing: The fire brigade youth of the FF Perwolfing invites you to a punch stand in the fire station for the first time today from 6 p.m.

Haslach: There will be a pre-Christmas afternoon on Friday from 2 p.m. in the courtyard of the Haslach retirement home. A small stall market will also be set up.

Niederwaldkirchen: Also on St. Mary’s Day, an atmospheric Christmas market takes place in and around the Niederwaldkirchner parsonage from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. At 3 p.m. the Melodists choir will give a concert in the parish church. Hermann Viehböck exhibits in the cultural rooms.

Kirchberg: The Kirchberg Christmas market also takes place on the town square in Kirchberg on St. Mary’s Day from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. Wind instruments from MV Kirchberg play, and at 3 p.m. the local elementary school students sing Christmas carols in the parish hall.

Schlaegl: The Schlägl Advent takes place at Stiftsmeierhof Schlägl from December 8th to 10th. On Friday and Sunday it opens from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and on Saturday from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. You can also visit the Kultur.Gut.Oberes Mühlviertel museum.

Götzendorf: On December 9th from 2 p.m., the Götzendorf castle garden will be transformed into a pre-Christmas market (in the heated knight’s hall) and a punch stand with a Christmas tree sale.

Lembach: Christmas sounds from the young musicians “Youngstars” from Lembach, Niederkappel and Putzleinsdorf will be heard on Saturday at 3 p.m. in the Lembach parish church.

St. Martin: A Christmas market will take place in St. Martin on December 9th from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. The children will be greeted by the magician “Magic Nesti” at the Wöhrer Inn at 2:30 p.m. and 4:15 p.m., and Santa Claus will come to the market square at 3:30 p.m. St. Martin’s brass band will provide music for the day before “Frau Karl & Band” gives a concert at 4:30 p.m.

Right: “Kimmt hiatz a quiete Zeit” – this is the motto of the Arnreit Cultural Committee’s Advent singing every year on December 9th at 7:30 p.m. in the parish church. To be heard: The Kuchltischmusi from Puchenau, the Arnreiter church choir under the direction of Ruben Höglinger and a wind quartet. The highlight of the evening, as always, is the elementary school’s shepherd game.

Peilstein: The Ariola in Peilstein will be the venue for a “special hour” by the Peilstein folk dance group on Sunday, December 10th, from 4 p.m. Lena Stögmüller with her Styrian, Meraner Dreigesang and Peilsteiner Stubenmusik conjure up contemplative sounds.

Engerwitzdorf: The Engerwitzdorf Christmas concert from the Lui Chan’s Klassik series will take place in the cultural center “Im Schöffl” on Saturday at 5 p.m. Violinist Lui Chan, together with renowned Austrian chamber soloists, takes visitors into the festive world of classical music.

Waldhausen: “Art and enjoyment” in the Advent Mühlviertel – this is the motto of the Waldhausen Advent from December 8th to 10th. In the distinctive ambience of Waldhausen Abbey you can experience almost forgotten handicrafts. The nativity scene exhibition in the pavilion and the lovingly designed Advent path to the nativity scene with life-size carved figures and live animals are also worth a visit.

Kefermarkt: The Weinberg Castle Advent is one of the most beautiful Advent markets in the country and is known far beyond the borders of the Mühlviertel. Over three days, more than 120 exhibitors and living workshops will impress visitors with a rich, sophisticated and solid range of handmade art objects – true to the motto “art instead of kitsch”. A concert series with real folk music and humorous presentations in the Knight’s Hall, the aria players from the Kefermarkt music band and the Nordwald hunting horn players spread a festive Christmas atmosphere from the castle tower.

Mitterkirchen: The Mitterkirchner Advent Magic takes place on Saturday from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. and on Sunday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and offers handicrafts and culinary delights. The exhibitors are located in the town center in the rooms of the elementary school, the parish hall, the FF house and in the municipal office.

Perg: The Perg Christmas market is open from Friday, December 8th to Sunday, December 10th, in the parish hall and around the town parish church. Visitors can expect art, music and enjoyment. Around 20 artisans present themselves in the parish hall. In the outdoor area there are toys, wool products and delicacies. The Mükis offer an extensive children’s program in the parish hall. There is an artists’ workshop and a children’s cinema every day at the end of the children’s program. And Santa Claus comes to visit every day at 2 p.m.
