At home… Iraq sweeps the Philippines and reaches the decisive stage of the World Cup qualifiers

Philippines – The Iraqi national team inflicted a crushing defeat on its Philippine counterpart (5-0) in the match that brought them together today, Tuesday, in the fourth round of the double qualifiers for the finals of the 2026 World Cup and the 2027 Asian Cup.

The Iraqi striker, Ayman Hussein, scored two goals for the “Al-Rafidain Lions”, the first and second in two minutes (14 from a penalty kick, and 37), including a goal from his colleague Amir Al-Ammar, in the 30th minute of the first half.

Iraqi midfielder Zidane Iqbal increased his country’s lead by scoring the fourth goal in the 62nd minute, before fellow defender Zaid Tahseen completed the scoring in the 77th minute of the match, which took place at the Jose Rizal Memorial Stadium in the capital, Manila.

Thus, the Iraqi national team achieved its fourth victory in a row, and leads the standings of Group Six (F) with a full mark, with 12 points, ensuring its advancement to the third (decisive and final) round of the joint qualifiers for the finals of the 2026 World Cup and the 2027 Asian Nations Cup.

On the other hand, the Philippine national team suffered its second defeat in a row, stopping its score at only one point, and placing it at the bottom of the group standings.

The following is the standings of the teams in Group Six (F):

1- Iraq – 12 points

2- Indonesia – 7 points

3- Vietnam – 3 points

4- Philippines – one point.
