The two men of Tunisian nationality are “likely to be linked to the author of the attack” in Brussels, announces the French National Anti-Terrorism Prosecutor’s Office.

The federal prosecutor’s office confirmed to Belga that it participated in a meeting with the French national anti-terrorist prosecutor’s office (Pnat) this Tuesday afternoon, regarding the two men arrested in France in connection with the attack committed on October 16 in Brussels. Currently, it is not envisaged that Belgium will request their extradition, indicated the federal prosecutor’s office.

The Belgian and French federal public ministries met to discuss the terrorism investigation carried out following the attack committed on October 16 in Brussels. Two men, who allegedly had contact with the author of the attack, Abdesalem Lassoued, were in fact arrested by the French police.

The investigation continues in France. Belgium does not intend to request, at this stage, the extradition of the two menindicated the federal prosecutor’s office Monday evening.

Two men indicted and placed in pre-trial detention

Tuesday, the Pnat announced that two Tunisians, domiciled in the Paris region, “likely to be linked to the author of the attack” committed on October 16 in Brussels, were indicted and placed in pre-trial detention by an investigating judge. Investigations “are continuing to clarify their links” with the attacker, Abdesalem Lassoued, added the Pnat.

Searches in France and Germany

In total, four people “likely to be linked to the author of the attack” had been arrested Thursday in Loire-Atlantique, Maine-et-Loire and the Paris region, said the Pnat. The two other people had their custody lifted.

Additionally, the home of another person in contact with the Brussels bomber was searched in Dresden, Germany, on Friday. The man was, however, released and is not considered an accomplice.
