India has never chased down more than 403 runs in Test history

Australia started the second session with a score of 201-6 and batting aimed for a huge lead from the start. Carey and Starc faced the Indian pace line with ease. Both found 93 runs in 120 balls for the seventh wicket. Shami broke the partnership by dismissing Starc who scored 41 runs off 57 balls.
Next came the hero Pat Cummins. Australia declared at 270 after Shami returned Cummins who scored five runs. India have a target of 444 runs to win. Carey remained unbeaten on 66 runs. India have never won a Test by chasing more than 403 runs.

With the strength of Travis Head (163) and Steve Smith (121), Australia built a huge score in the first innings despite losing the toss. Both of them added 285 runs for the fourth wicket. With this, India’s prospects faded. Mohammad Siraj, who took four wickets, excelled in bowling for India.
India: 296-10 (1st innings)
Australia continued to dominate by breaking the top line which included Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli and Cheteshwar Pujara. Ajinkya Rahane (89), Shardul Thakur (51) and Ravindra Jadeja (48) saved India from the follow-on. Pat Cummins took three wickets for Australia.

Australia has lost the wickets of David Warner, Usman Khawaja, Steve Smith and Travis Head so far after a huge lead of 173 runs. Australia will aim to find a lead above 450 runs. Marnus Lebuschein (41) and Cameron Green (7) remain at the crease.
