Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said his country did not accept the Israeli attack that killed an Australian aid worker in Gaza.

“Israel’s explanation for the deaths of seven aid workers as a result of an airstrike in Gaza, including Australian woman Zomi Frankcom, is not good enough,” said Anthony Albanese on Thursday (4/3).

Israel said it mistakenly killed World Central Kitchen (WCK) charity workers, sparking widespread condemnation from the United States and some of its allies.

The dead included Australian, British and Polish citizens as well as Palestinians and dual citizens of the US and Canada.

“We need to have accountability for how this happened, and what is not good are the statements that have been made, including that this was simply a product of war,” Albanese said at a news conference in Sydney.

Albanese appeared to be referring to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s comments in a video message saying this happened in the war because the Israeli military promised an independent investigation.

Celebrity chef Jose Andres, founder of World Central Kitchen, said Israeli attacks had targeted his workers systematically, car by car.

He said World Central Kitchen workers in Gaza had clear communication with the military, which was aware of their movements.

Albanese said Frankcom was traveling in a vehicle that was clearly identified as a relief vehicle and should not have posed a risk.

He demanded full accountability in a phone call with Netanyahu on Wednesday.

“They have committed to conducting a full and proper investigation. I want it to be transparent and I want the findings to be made public so we can find out exactly how this happened,” he concluded. (CNA/Z-3)
