For 78 percent, work-life balance is “very” or “somewhat important,” according to the survey published on Friday.

Depending on the level of employment, the desired weekly working hours differ. Austrians in full-time employment would like to work a 35-hour week, while part-time workers would prefer to work 26.5 hours a week. 35 percent of the population could imagine working from home. This proportion is particularly high in the 16 to 34 year old age group (57 percent). This willingness decreases with increasing age; among the 60 plus generation the proportion is twelve percent. Basically, the majority of Austrians (54 percent) say “no” to working from home, eleven percent did not provide any information. And among those who can imagine working at home, most only want to do so two days a week (33 percent). On average, the survey showed 2.8 home office days.

When it came to Sunday opening, 41 percent showed “hardly any preference” and 40 percent “tend to prefer”. What 78 percent of those surveyed said was “very” or “somewhat important” was that restaurants were open on Sundays. And even if there is a desire for less working hours, people generally want the service sector to keep (shops) open all day on weekdays and in some cases on Saturdays. And it should be possible to visit cultural and leisure facilities on weekends.

Back in May, 1,028 people from the Austrian population aged 16 and over were interviewed personally.
