Austria’s heat pole was 37 degrees in Innsbruck

With exactly 37.0 degrees Celsius, the Innsbruck University measuring station of the Central Institute for Meteorology and Geodynamics (ZAMG) showed the highest value today. At least 36 degrees were exceeded at three other measuring points, namely again in Mayrhofen in Tyrol with 36.3, the same value was displayed in Gänserndorf in Lower Austria, while 36.6 degrees were reached in Bad Deutsch-Altenburg.

The temperatures are still a bit away from the Austrian record. This is 40.5 degrees, measured in Bad Deutsch-Altenburg on August 8, 2013.

It was also extremely warm at high altitudes, sometimes even in record range: at the weather station on the Brenner Pass in Tyrol, at 1,412 meters above sea level, it was 30.6 degrees. This matched the July record of 2015 exactly. And it was the second highest temperature ever recorded on the burner. The record is 31.1 degrees on the Brenner, measured in June 2019. The ZAMG weather station on the Brenner has existed since July 1947.

It was hot all over Austria, with temperatures above 30 degrees in most of the country at lunchtime. This mark was broken at 1.15 p.m. at around 160 of the 280 weather stations.
