Balkan Rhapsody: A Vibrant and Intergenerational Family Saga

The intrepid and courageous Miriam is in reality the grandmother of the author, who displays in this first novel all her admiration for this extraordinary grandmother, mistreated by life. The story, both energetic and sensitive, has the particularity of being interspersed with fictitious conversations between the author and her characters. These unexpected interruptions undoubtedly constitute the real success of the novel. Maria Kassimova-Moisset asks point blank the angry questions, takes offense at decisions made, sometimes gets angry with her characters who are also her parents and whom she heckles without regard. An undermining of the story, which suggests that no destiny is perfectly linear and that the choices made often have repercussions on following generations.

Carried away by the current

Life is not a long, quiet river, certain currents carry us far, towards the rapids. With admiration and frankness, the Bulgarian author reconstructs a family story as joyful as it is painful, assumed by some, misunderstood by others. She was able to unearth what was romantic about this biography with its many faces and drew from it a story of great vitality.
