The Economic Crimes Section of the Public Prosecutor’s Office is investigating the swap of goalkeepers Jasper Cillessen and Neto Murara between Barca and Valencia. According to the complaint filed, this double operation was intended to “distort the financial balance sheet” of the two clubs.
New concerns to come for FC Barcelona? Having just been crowned Spanish champion for the 27th time in its history and still mired in the Negreira affair, the Catalan club is on the radar of the economic crime section of the prosecution, just like Valencia, concerning a transfer dating back to summer 2019. At the time, Barça and the Blanquinegras agreed on an exchange between goalkeepers Jasper Cillessen and Neto Murara. The operation left 35 million euros in the Blaugrana coffers, and 26 million euros plus bonuses in that of Valencia.
This transfer is one of many operations carried out by the port city club which are under investigation by the economic crime prosecution. Cope et Sports world announce that a complaint has been lodged by the club’s former vice-president Miguel Zorio. An investigation was opened to “carry out as many actions as necessary to determine the possible criminality of the facts denounced”.
Fake accounts?
According to the complaint filed, the exchange between the two goalkeepers would have made it possible to “distort the financial balance sheet” of the two clubs. In his statement, Miguel Zorio implicates the shareholder of the Valencia club, Peter Lim, the president Layhoon Chan, the former president Amadeo Salvo and the agent Jorge Mendes. It refers to possible corporate crimes, false accounting, unfair administration, corruption between individuals and corruption to the detriment of public finances.
Zorio also points the finger at Peter Lim over the sale of several players he bought from Benfica before becoming Valencia’s main shareholder. The public prosecutor’s press release recalls that investigations have already been carried out into this case, but that no legal proceedings have been initiated. It also announces that it is integrating these investigations already carried out into its own “in order to clarify the facts denounced and to avoid duplication”.
