FC Barcelona is seriously considering selling alleged Ajax target next summer. However, the Amsterdam team will face formidable competition from an old acquaintance: the 19-year-old Senegalese is said to have now also appeared on the radar of former Ajax coach Erik ten Hag’s Manchester United. German leader Bayer Leverkusen is also reportedly keeping an eye on Faye.
About two weeks ago, Italian transfer guru Fabrizio Romano reported Ajax’s interest in the talented Barcelona defender. The Spanish Sport writes on Saturday morning that next summer do or die will be for Faye, who celebrated his debut for the Senegal national team last international match and promptly scored in a 3-0 friendly win against Gabon. “The player must now make the step to the first team, if not he will be sold,” the newspaper reports. Faye was taken over by Barcelona from the Croatian NK Kustosija for 1.5 million euros last summer, but due to the great competition in his position, he is still waiting for his first playing minutes in the main squad.

After all, coach Xavi Hernández has plenty of choice for the two positions in the center of the defense. For example, Faye has to tolerate internationals such as Roland Araujo, Jules Koundé and Andreas Christensen. In addition, Pau Cubarsí has recently made a stormy breakthrough and the Catalans still have three central defenders who are currently on loan: Clément Lenglet (Aston Villa), Eric García (Girona) and Chadi Riad (Real Betis). The latter in particular, who was sold but can be brought back for a fixed transfer fee, has impressed this season and could well get his chance in Barcelona next summer, which would make the club inclined to sell Faye.
Barcelona would focus on a permanent transfer, but would like to enforce a buyback option in the negotiations with Faye’s new employer. In addition to Ajax, there are said to be many clubs on the line, Sport writes: “Girona has made inquiries and in France RC Lens and OGC Nice are prepared to pay more than ten million euros,” the newspaper knows. “There is also a German club that wants to bid strongly (Football Spain writes that it concerns Bayer Leverkusened.) and in England there is talk of interest from Manchester United,” the newspaper concludes the list of interested clubs.
