The hands of the mafia on Bari, with its tentacles in the vital ganglia of the city. From control over the transport subsidiary to influence on the city council, led by the anti-mafia champion of the dem Antonio Decaro. Over the last twenty years, the powerful family headed by boss Savino Parisi has woven such a deep intertwining of politics and crime that it required anti-mafia interdictory measures from judges and the intervention of the ministerial commission to evaluate the dissolution of the Municipality. The most incontrovertible element is Amtab, the in-house transport company placed under administration by the Court of Bari on the basis of «sufficient evidence to believe that the free exercise of certain economic systems, managed by Amtab Spa, is directly or indirectly subjected to conditions of intimidation or subjugation provided for by art. 416-bis of the criminal code (hypothesis of the company being a victim)” of the mafia, writes judge Giulia Romanazzi, who ordered the interdiction on 22 February. A municipal company completely in the hands of the Parisi clan who, through the manager of the rest area Giovanni Del Core, arranged the hiring of affiliates and earned money from the blue lines. Del Core, in fact, had become a pawn in the hands of Tommaso Lovreglio, nephew of the boss Savino Parisi and employee of Amtab, and of Michele De Tullio, known as “under ice”, brother-in-law of the boss’ nephew. The two were therefore the expression of the criminal family in the subsidiary of the Municipality of Bari and, with a constant intimidating action, they imposed their orders on Del Core, especially regarding the people of the clan to be hired.

An explanatory passage of the order reports the wiretaps of the victim, who said that he did not sleep at night due to fear, that he could no longer handle that situation and that he was developing the idea of quitting. The strength of the mafia organisation, between 2018 and 2019, led to the hiring in the transport company of Annaelena Parisi, daughter of the boss’s brother Savino, of Luigi Carrassi, brother-in-law of the brother of the boss’s proconsul, of Annarosa Lovreglio, niece of «under ice», of Iolanda Stringano, cousin of Tommaso Lovreglio, and of Tommaso Gargano, son of the clan head’s sister. These are only the latest hires, because several affiliates have joined Amtab. According to the repentant Nicola De Santis, the clan leader’s brother was also hired in 2011 thanks to political promises. «As regards the hiring of Parisi Massimo at the Amtab, I remember that he was involved in the electoral campaigns of Decaro and Giorgio D’Amore in the Japigia Torre a Mare area constituency between 2008 and 2010; the meetings took place approximately 7 months before or at most a year before Parisi Massimo’s next appointment at Amtab”, testifies the justice collaborator, who adds that “it was a matter of local elections and Decaro was at the Transport Department. At the meeting which took place near a bar in the square of Torre a Mare, a pedestrian area, I also participated and there were Decaro, his father Giovanni, D’Amore Giorgio, Parisi Massimo, De Tullio Michele and others. De Tullio Michele told me that we had to support Decaro and Parisi Massimo would thus be hired.”
And again, the clan would have been interested in the 2014 primaries to determine the center-left coalition’s candidate for mayor of Bari. It was at the time that the link between Lovreglio and Giacomo Olivieri emerged, the former regional councilor arrested together with his wife Maria Carmen Lorusso, councilor in the Decaro majority, in the latest DDA operation for a political-mafia exchange vote. Olivieri, at the time, ranked behind the current mayor. Then, in the last round, thanks to the support of the Parisi, he brought his wife to the City Council, who strategically moved from the opposition to Decaro’s majority. A victory for the clan’s affiliates, who, when intercepted, said that with Lorusso in the Municipality they could do whatever they wanted. And perhaps not exclusively with her, because from a conversation reported in the documents, the investigating judge underlines how Olivieri «in the current municipal council of Bari, believes he can count not only on his wife Lorusso and Di Rella Pasquale, but also on other councilors, some of whom belong to the current political majority and/or with a political past in “Realtà Italia”, i.e. the movement previously created and led by Olivieri himself”. Who, thanks to his connection with the clan, aimed to become a shadow councilor. He confesses this to Andrea Dammacco, the former president of the Second Municipality, to whom he says that he has a guaranteed five years ahead of him in the City Council, because anyway the whole Realtà Italia list is inside, and that as soon as he had the availability of a bribe of 200 thousand euros he would achieved the goal of being an external councilor. Because, he sneered, the role of councilor with Decaro is worth nothing, given that the PD mayor doesn’t care about the council about him.
