BB.lv: VEF members for the first time without a final

The United Latvian-Estonian men’s basketball championship is coming to an end, where one finalist is already known, and the second will be determined this evening. The Ukrainian “Prometheus” will definitely perform in the main match.

In one of the semi-finals of the tournament, VEF-Riga and the Ukrainian Prometheus fought in a series of up to two victories. Alas, the Latvian champion failed to win even once. Having lost to a formidable opponent in the first game with a score of 66:76, the VEF team lost in the second – 66:87, losing the entire series 0-2. The most effective player of the capital’s club that evening was American legionnaire Greg Whittington, who scored 24 points.

This means that for the first time in the history of this championship, VEF-Riga will not play in the finals. The team of Janis Gailitis has a bronze medal match ahead. It is still unclear who will be the rival of the Riga residents. And all because in the second semi-final with the participation of the Estonian “Kaleva-Kramo” and “Ventspils” the score in the series is still a draw 1-1.

In the first game in Tallinn, Kalev-Kramo was clearly stronger – 91:65, in the second game Ventspils took revenge at home – 80:65 (Artur Auseis scored 21 points against the winners). The third, decisive game in the Estonian capital will take place tonight, April 16. The match for third place is scheduled for April 19, the final on the 20th.
