Because of $50, the death of a newborn at the door of a hospital sparks anger in Egypt

An Egyptian government hospital in Cairo governorate refused to receive a pregnant woman about to give birth until after paying the required amount, which caused the death of her fetus.

An Egyptian young man filed a police report against the management of Kafr Shukr Specialist Hospital in Qalyubia Governorate, accusing him of refusing to receive his wife in the operating room to give birth, unless after paying an amount of 1,600 Egyptian pounds (less than 50 dollars).

In his communication, the young man said that he did not have the money, so his wife was forced to give birth at the reception door, and the fetus fell to the ground and died.

Maha Ibrahim, head of the Specialized Medical Centers Secretariat at the Ministry of Health, decided to dismiss the director of Kafr Shukr Hospital and appoint a new director.

It also ordered the opening of an urgent investigation to find out the circumstances of the incident.
