In 1981, this resident of Birmingham, a great lover of cars and houses, bought his first “original” number plate for the sum of 120 pounds sterling, or around 140 euros. At the time, the ‘4VBF’ license plate only had one number and three letters, and Rod quickly realized that it could make him a lot more money.
In the aftermath, he indeed resold this “work of art” for more than 3,000 pounds sterling. A huge sum for the time, which today would represent around 18,000 euros, explains the Mirror.
Today, Rod assures us that he is a multi-millionaire. And according to him, it is thanks to the sale of this license plate that he no longer has to worry about his future. Because he had invested the amount collected in a house to renovate. It was then that his career as an entrepreneur in real estate began.

Today, Rob fixes up and resells homes as quickly as he buys and resells license plates. “All thanks to a license plate,” he says. According to him, it was the purchase of this plate in 1981 that gave him the courage to start: “I am an opportunist, and I saw in this plate an object whose value was undervalued”.

Rod recognizes that he mainly concentrates on plates which could be of interest to companies, and which he can therefore resell at a good price. But not only. Rod explains for example that, when George Michael died, he bought the “UG03RGE” plate for 400 pounds sterling and resold it for about 7 times the price a little later…
