Before the general strike, French President Emmanuel Macron…

In a TV interview, the President explains the need for pension reform. He wants to set new priorities. But it keeps bubbling up.

Emmanuel Macron had remained silent during the conflict over pension reform and let his head of government do it. In view of the danger that the nationwide protests would shake up the political system, the President finally had to speak.

“Do you think it is a pleasure for me to carry out this reform?” Macron began his interview on the two TV channels TF1 and France2 in a rather aggressive tone, to make it clear from the start that he did not intend to start with a ” Mea culpa” to make a public apology for the crisis. He assures that he acted “in the higher interest of the nation”. At most, he and his government did not understand how to explain to the population why these measures to financially secure the pension system were necessary.
