February 1989 – September 2023. Dany Verstraeten’s career at VTM was long and glorious. For 35 years, the Flemish journalist made the heyday of the public channel. At 67, the one who embodied the television news for several years now has decided to retire.
This Tuesday, September 5, he therefore closed the daily news meeting, not without emotion. “We thus come to the end of a long and beautiful story that began 35 years ago,” said Dany, on the verge of tears, when closing his news. “I want to thank everyone I’ve worked with, in front of and behind the scenes – there have been hundreds over the years – as well as my friends and family. »
The journalist then spoke directly to his viewers. “I especially want to thank you, the viewers, for the love I have felt during my career here at VTM. It was an honor to work for you. »
The entire VTM editorial team was present to applaud and say goodbye to a true legend of Belgian television. A legend who started with a cover of a Flemish song, specially adapted for the occasion: “Dany, if I see you, your career should last forever”
