Some changes will take place in Belgium in 2024.

Meal vouchers

Members of the staff of the federal public administration will be able to benefit from a personal electronic meal voucher per day worked. The nominal value is set at €6.

Mail

The price of stamps and parcels will be adapted in 2024 at bpost. Fares could rise another 3% over the course of the year if inflation rises more than expected.

Leave due to illness

If you fall ill during your leave, you will now be able to recover these “lost” days during the year. In 2012, the European Court of Justice ruled that a worker who fell ill during his leave could recover it later. Belgium will comply with this from 2024. However, you will need to quickly notify your employer and provide them with a medical certificate. If the worker is not at home, he must also specify his place of residence.

Smoking

The Minister of Public Health, Frank Vandenbroucke (Vooruit), aims for “a tobacco-free generation”, as reported by the VRT. To achieve this, a plan including several measures was developed. Among these is, in particular, an excise on liquids for electronic cigarettes. The amount will be 15 cents per milliliter. This measure will therefore increase the price of disposable electronic cigarettes.

E-Cigarette: the new tax that ignites vapers

In addition, next year, packs of classic cigarettes will cost on average €2 more. Finally, smoking will now be prohibited in certain places, and stores will no longer be able to display tobacco-related products in their stalls.

Reduced VAT for certain sectors

Price increase at Voo

According to the Echo, Voo will increase the prices of some of its products: digital television, landline telephony and Giga Max Internet. The Net Super Relax internet connection, for its part, will not increase, just like the Zuny offer and the TV Light offer.

End of paper court records

The former Minister of Justice, Vincent Van Quickenborne, explained that “thanks to a new law, archives will have to be preserved in digital form. Paper archives will gradually become a thing of the past.”
