A third grade student from Bellevue College in Toulouse was arrested after attacking his technology teacher. The incident, which occurred on Monday April 22, aroused general indignation, the students of the establishment reacted after this act of violence.

At Bellevue college in Toulouse, Clément*, a 3rd grade student, was arrested after physically and verbally assaulting his technology teacher. The facts, which occurred Monday April 22 around 11:30 a.m., led to a strong reaction from the rector of the Toulouse academy, Mostafa Fourar, but also from many students and comrades of Clément.

According to testimonies collected on Tuesday, the 14-year-old teenager slapped the teacher several times and made death threats against him, in reaction to a reprimand from the latter. The teacher reprimanded him for disruptive behavior in class.

College students, dismayed by this act of violence, expressed their disapproval on Tuesday. “I was told that a teacher had been attacked, but I don’t know any more. At school, they told me that it was not up to them to take care of it, but to the police”, explains Ylam, in fourth grade. Inès*, another student, adds: “Whatever it was, Clément didn’t have to hit the techno teacher, that’s not happening, even if he was angry.”

Some students try to justify the respondent’s reaction, claiming that the incident stems from a pre-existing situation: “He didn’t have to hit him, but frankly he warned, it was the teacher who didn’t dropped the matter”, testifies Ouassini, also in third grade. According to him, the professor would have “provoked” the situation by holding Clément against the wall, despite his repeated requests to let him go. “It was the teacher who tried it, he slammed him against the wall very violently, grabbing him by the collar of the t-shirt,” he adds.

“A good guy”

The technology teacher known for his kindness and humor, but also for his firmness when it comes to maintaining order in the classroom, was reportedly hurt: “According to what other students told me, the teacher had an open arch and a broken or fractured nose” says Nicolas*, one of the 3rd grade students.

As for Clément, his classmates describe him as a good person but dissipated in class this year, due to a lack of motivation. “He’s a good guy,” says Nicolas. “He hangs out all the time with a friend of ours, Ryan, and it’s true that as soon as he gets offended he tends to hit a little, but that’s not at all the case for Clément.” explains Nicolas. “It’s true, he’s always crazy, I’ve never seen him hit anyone,” adds Ouassini.

A live Instagram of the accused and a new nickname that raises questions

After the incident, the boy left the school himself, but according to his classmates, the 3rd grade student launched a live broadcast the same evening on his Instagram account to explain his version of the facts, before change his pseudonym describing himself as “a bruiser”. Does he make amends after this incident? Not sure. According to Ouassini and Nicolas, the incident with Clément is not isolated. A similar situation would have occurred in the same college two weeks ago. “It was just before the school holidays, a 6th grader hit a teacher who had been at the school for a long time,” explains Nicolas.
