Anthony Taylor (44, England), a referee who is active in the English Premier League (EPL), will serve as the referee for the 2022 Qatar World Cup Korean national football team’s second match against Ghana.

According to the list announced by the International Football Federation (FIFA) on the 23rd (hereinafter Korean time), Taylor was assigned as a referee for the second match between Korea and Ghana in Group H of the World Cup group stage held at Education City Stadium in Al Rayyan, Qatar at 10:00 pm on the 28th. . Taylor, who has been active in the EPL since 2010, is currently considered one of the league’s leading referees. He has been active as an international referee since 2013 and has experienced various competitions.

At the 2020 European Football Championship (Euro 2020) held in June of last year, he also took charge of the first leg of Group B in the group stage between Finland and Denmark, which was the match in which Christian Eriksen (Manchester United) of Denmark collapsed unconscious. At the time, referee Taylor was praised for making the treatment of Eriksen smooth with his quick response.

As much as he is active in the EPL, he has been in charge of several matches played by Korean captain Son Heung-min (Tottenham), and has even sent off Son Heung-min. In December 2019 against Chelsea in the 18th round of the 2019-2020 season, Son Heung-min received a red card immediately after a video review (VAR) for lifting his foot after a contest with opposing defender Antonio Rudiger. When a three-game suspension was imposed, Tottenham protested and appealed, but the English Football Association rejected it and it was confirmed.

During the EPL match between Chelsea and Tottenham in August, at the beginning of this season, referee Taylor also issued a red card to both coaches. Chelsea coach Thomas Tuchel, who was dissatisfied with the decision, approached Antonio Conte during Tottenham coach Antonio Conte’s scoring ceremony and collided with his chest. In the end, he was eventually expelled. At the time, coach Tuchel criticized Tottenham for not pointing out offside or fouls when scoring, and said he hoped Taylor would not take charge of Chelsea’s game.

In this match between Korea and Ghana, referee Taylor works with English referees Gary Bejic and Adam Nunn, while referee Kevin Ortega of Peru serves as third referee. The video review (VAR) referee is Tomas Kwiatkowski (Poland).
