Biden lifts US state of emergency over coronavirus

US President Joe Biden signed into law a bill lifting the state of emergency, which was introduced more than three years ago in connection with the spread of COVID-19. This is stated in notification on the White House website without further clarification.

The state of emergency was introduced in 2020 amid the coronavirus pandemic by the 45th President Donald Trump. Mr. Biden later extended it. In January, the president told the leadership of the US Congress that he plans to lift the state of emergency from May 11, but lawmakers decided to end it immediately. The law on this was signed by Mr. Biden.

In the USA, according to data Johns Hopkins University, about 104 million coronavirus infections were recorded during the pandemic. 1.1 million people died.
