Blackouts continue today 2024-02-24 07:35:46

The energy situation in Cuba continues at critical levels, plunging the population into a constant cycle of blackouts, the inability to satisfy demand, leaving thousands of citizens in the dark and seriously affecting the quality of life.

Throughout yesterday, the SEN experienced a series of interruptions. Two critical peaks, which took place from 11:08 a.m. to 12:21 p.m. and from 3:17 p.m. to 8:26 p.m., showed a deficiency in the generation capacity, reaching a maximum impact of 770 MW at 6 p.m. :40 hours, right at the time of rush hour.

At the start of the day, at 07:00, the availability of energy was 1950 MW compared to a demand of 1720 MW. A gloomy picture is revealed when observing that unit 2 of the Felton CTE is out of service due to a breakdown, while critical units in the Mariel, Nuevitas and Santa Cruz CTEs are undergoing maintenance. Thermal generation faces significant limitations, with a deficit of 362 MW, and a considerable number of distributed generation plants are out of service due to lack of fuel, totaling 865 MW.

To cope with the peak in demand, the measures seem insufficient. The entry of Distributed Generation engines awaiting maintenance and the authorization to use them with 30 MW, together with the entry of an engine in the Melones basin with 17 MW, are hot topics that do not solve the root of the problem.

With a forecast that predicts an availability of 1997 MW and a maximum demand of 2800 MW at peak time, a deficit of 803 MW is forecast, leaving the population at the mercy of blackouts that could reach 873 MW.

The patience of the population is running out as the country plunges into darkness, demanding immediate solutions and a real commitment to citizens.
