A historic rivalry, the two best teams in the United States and plenty of top prospects, including a few from the Montreal Canadiens. The Hockey East division final will be exciting in the NCAA as Boston University and Boston College face off on Saturday evening.

First, the number one team in the United States, Boston College, followed logic by crushing Massachusetts 8-1 in the first semifinal.

After conceding the first goal, Montreal Canadiens prospect Jacob Fowler gave nothing more to finish the game with 27 saves. Earlier this week, Fowler was named one of three finalists for the Mike Richter Trophy, awarded to the NCAA’s top goaltender.

BC’s offensive big guns took control of the game. The trio composed of prospects Cutter Gauthier, Gabe Perreault and Will Smith was dominant with a total of 12 points (4 points each).

Ryan Leonard also contributed with a goal and two assists. Boston College thus signed its 30th victory of the season and its 10th consecutive victory.

Lucas Mercuri was the only scorer in the UMass camp.

Hutson shines in the other semi-final

In the second semi-final, Boston University joined its great rivals by signing a 4-1 victory at the expense of the University of Maine.

Canadiens prospect Lane Hutson stood out by scoring a power play goal. The defender bypassed the defensive coverage with a skillful feint before unleashing a precise wrist shot that gave BU a 2-0 lead at the time.

Macklin Celebrini, who is tipped to be the next No. 1 pick in the NHL draft, had three assists in the victory. Lane’s brother, Quinn Hutson, added two assists while Ryan Greene had two goals.

Luke Tuch, who also belongs to the Canadiens, was complicit in Sam Stevens’ empty-net goal late in the game.

Maine dominated 33-18 in shots on goal, but goaltender Mathieu Caron was excellent with a 32-save performance and BU’s power play hit the mark twice in three attempts on the power play.
