A five-year-old was rescued unconscious by his mother from a swimming pool in an indoor hotel swimming pool in Serfaus in the Landeck district of Tyrol on Friday. The mother, a trained nurse from Germany, immediately began resuscitation and was able to successfully resuscitate her boy together with a second nurse present, the police said.

When rescue arrived, the child was conscious and responsive again, it was said. After initial treatment, the five-year-old was flown by emergency helicopter to the children’s clinic in Innsbruck.

The 49-year-old mother had previously wanted to slide down a water slide into a collecting basin with her two five-year-old twins. The son who ultimately had an accident slipped down first. The mother and second son waited for the red phase of the traffic lights and then also slipped down, the executive informed. The mother then looked for her son, who could no longer be found, in the collecting basin. Eventually she found him and began retrieving him.
