Uruguay’s Banco de Previsión Social is launching a debt-consolidation credit line branded as “limpia pasividad” alongside discounted holiday loans for minimum-pension recipients, targeting roughly 5,000 retirees facing institutional arrears.
Borrowers Bundle Loan Obligations into Single Credit Facility
- Consolidation Mechanics: Borrowers can bundle all existing BPS loan obligations into a single credit facility indexed to the Consumer Price Index.
- Rate Relief: The consolidated debt features a financing rate set at 50% of the standard prevailing rates for the period.
- Holiday Special: A seasonal credit line opens on December 1, offering interest rates five percentage points lower than standard offerings for minimum-pension earners.
Consolidating Minimum-Pension Obligations at Discounted Rates
The Banco de Previsión Social (BPS) is rolling out a targeted debt-consolidation mechanism for retirees and pensioners earning minimum passivities of 20,935 pesos. BPS President Jimena Pardo announced that the new credit line functions as a “limpia pasividad” designed specifically for individuals carrying loan balances within the institution. Under the program, qualifying participants can merge multiple BPS liabilities into a single restructured loan.
The balance of this consolidated credit will update according to the Consumer Price Index (IPC). The institution will finance the restructured amount at half the standard interest rates currently enforced for the period. Pardo noted that the administrative measure directly addresses approximately 5,000 passive beneficiaries nationwide who currently maintain overdue loan balances with the BPS.
Accessing the new financial product requires in-person processing. Beneficiaries must schedule an appointment by calling 1997 or by utilizing the official BPS website.
BPS Implements Specialized Credit Line Ahead of Holidays
Complementing the debt-restructuring initiative, the BPS confirmed the implementation of a specialized credit line ahead of the year-end holidays. Effective December 1, this seasonal offering targets retirees and pensioners collecting minimum passivities. The financing terms for this holiday credit feature an interest rate sitting five percentage points below the institution’s standard baseline.
Concurrently, the BPS released its mandatory payment calendar for the month of November. Disbursements for beneficiaries utilizing payment networks and bank accounts begin on Wednesday, November 4, delayed by a Monday holiday. For interior regions lacking standard collection agencies, mobile payment tours are scheduled to run from November 5 through November 10 to service this smaller demographic.
