Mid-Air Breakup Confirmed by Dispersed Tail Debris
Parts of the tail from a Learjet 60 that crashed in South Florida on November 1, 2026, have been recovered nearly two kilometers away from the main impact crater, confirming to investigators that the aircraft was breaking apart mid-flight.
National Transportation Safety Board member Tom Chapman stated during a news conference that the discovery of the tail components provides crucial physical evidence.

The plane’s elevator, responsible for controlling the aircraft’s pitch up and down, was found broken into three separate pieces. Without an intact elevator, a pilot cannot pull an aircraft out of a nose dive.
A Bahamas-Bound Charter Carrying Nine Souls
The Bahamas-bound charter flight originated in Austin, Texas, carrying nine people on board, including technology entrepreneur Adam Robinson, his wife Helen Sharp, their two young children, Charlie and Emma, and a family caregiver, as reported by RNZ. Other occupants included a couple named Rachael Reed and Charmi Fehr, alongside the flight crew.

While 20-year-old co-pilot Nathalia Gadelha Filgueiras managed communications, she had already accumulated some 1,300 hours of flying experience. Growing up in Palm Beach County, Filgueiras was previously featured in local media when she obtained her private pilot’s license at just 17 in October 2023, before she even had her driver’s license, telling CBS12 in an interview at the time, I definitely do brag because people say, ‘Oh, you can’t drive,’ and I’m like, ‘Yeah, but I can fly.’
Thomas Noetzel, the director of operations at the operating company Upper Jets, organized an online GoFundMe fundraiser, writing that Gregory was a close, personal friend and that knowing him has made me a better person.
Noetzel’s father, Walter, posted on Facebook that Jeff was a devoted, conscientious, and deeply faithful man who had a genuine passion for flying and a strong love for the Lord,
and added, His journey on earth may have ended, but I like to think he is now flying among the angels, soaring peacefully in the presence of our Lord.
Turbulence, Icing, and a Rapid Descent
Before the crash, Filgueiras texted her boyfriend at approximately 12:40 p.m., stating she had encountered turbulence and ice, according to information provided by her stepfather, Thiago Corteleti, to the New York Post. Ten minutes later, as severe weather impacted the route, the situation deteriorated rapidly.
Flight tracking data from ADS-B Exchange showed the Learjet plunging 27,000 feet in the span of one minute before signals cut off. The aircraft slammed into Military Trail in Greenacres, between Cresthaven Boulevard and 10th Avenue North, about 11 kilometers southwest of West Palm Beach, creating a deep crater and erupting into a fireball.
Scattering Plane Fragments over a Large Area
The impact scattered plane fragments over a large area, with investigators reporting that tail parts landed up to 1.6km or nearly 2km from the primary impact site, reinforcing Chapman’s assessment that structural failure occurred before ground collision. The crater filled with murky water, complicating the recovery of major wreckage on the roadway.
I can not even imagine what the families of those on board must be feeling today. Such a terrible tragedy. https://t.co/2CpS1j2H71

Weather Conditions Under Investigation
Investigators are prioritizing weather conditions, including the accumulation of ice and severe turbulence, as central factors in the ongoing probe.

While a preliminary report is expected within a month, the complete determination of the crash cause will likely take more than a year.
