Former Australian spinner Brad Hogg has made a bold prediction about the upcoming 2023 ODI World Cup. Hogg believes Australia are the only team capable of knocking India out of the tournament. While India will enjoy the benefit of home ground advantage, Hogg has underlined Australia’s squad depth as their trump card.
The 2023 ODI World Cup is scheduled from October 5 to November 19 in India. Australia, who previously secured the title as hosts in 2015, and India, who won on home soil in 2011, are strong contenders. The 2019 edition held in England was also won by the host nation.
India and Australia will begin their World Cup journey on October 8 at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. In an interview on RevSports’ show “Backstage with Boria”, Hogg was quizzed about his assessment of India and Australia’s chances in the upcoming ICC event.
Hogg stated, “Australia have an exceptional fast bowling arsenal, led by Mitchell Starc, who are well suited to demolish India. Our bowling arsenal also includes spinner Adam Sampa, who is adept at controlling runs in the middle overs. We are ahead in batting and all-round excellence.”
“I believe Australia is the only team capable of knocking India out of the World Cup. They have won the World Test Championship and the Ashes. India will crush Australia,” said the 52-year-old.
Before the World Cup, Australia will play a three-match ODI series in India from September 22 to September 27.
