Brazil’s Federal Police Investigate Death and Rape Threats Against Newly Elected MP Ana Elisa

A Polícia Federal (PF) is investigating threats against the newly elected federal deputy Ana Elisa (PT-MG), who has reported receiving racist attacks, death threats, and rape threats.

The PF’s investigation is being conducted by the Federal Police Delegation in Divinópolis (MG), with technical support from the Cybercrime Directorate (DCIBER), and includes specialized procedures and requests for international police cooperation to identify those responsible.

The 21-year-old deputy-elect detailed the threats in a video posted to her Instagram on November 6, where she read an email containing racist and misogynistic language. She described the email as “the mildest one I receive.” The correspondence, received on October 11, was sent by a person identified as Pedro Henrique Gaiardo and had the subject line “I’m going to rape and kill the federal deputy Ana Elisa”.

A specific excerpt from the message read: “Tomorrow at noon, exactly when the sun hits your face, I will rip that ridiculous pink blouse off your body without giving you a second to scream or beg for mercy.” The author of the email has also sent threats to other left-wing politicians, such as Guilherme Boulos (PSOL) and Erika Hilton (PSOL-SP).
