In the presidential election held on the 2nd (local time), former President Luis Inacio Lula Dasouba (76) took the first place in Brazil’s presidential election.

As of 7:55 p.m. on the same day, former President Lula took the first place with 47.5% of the vote, with 94% of the vote counting completed. His rival, President Bolsonaro, won 44.0 percent of the vote.

Contrary to expectations, he showed off his potential by not giving up the lead until just before 70% of the vote counting.

Former President Lula leads Bolsonaro by one foot, but it is certain that he will not be able to secure the election in the first round as he is likely to fail to get a majority of the valid votes.

As a result, former President Lula is expected to hold a runoff against President Bolsonaro on the 30th.
