Previously, the summer transfer window of 2019 was the record-breaking in terms of spending. Then all the clubs in the world spent € 7.568 billion on the acquisition of new players. In the summer of 2023, € 7.63 billion have already been spent on the purchase of 1617 players.

The setting of a new record was influenced by the actions of Saudi Arabian clubs, which have already managed to spend € 846 million during the current transfer window. They also increased their spending on buying new players from the Premier League team. They spent €2.43 billion, almost €1 billion more than in 2019.

The final bar of the record will not be set on September 2, the day after the deadline in Europe’s top leagues, but on September 20, when the transfer window closes in Saudi Arabia.
