In Brownsville, 49-year-old physician assistant Fernando Mendez faces 7 federal health care fraud charges for practicing medicine without a license
According to the indictment, Mendez’s license was suspended in July by the Texas Medical Bureau for being a threat to the public. However, Mendez continued to practice in mental health clinics in Brownsville, Harlingen and Pharr. In addition, he is accused of using the names of other doctors and medical personnel to work.
Méndez faces up to 10 years in prison.
