Budget and rights

All public policies (from school construction to business subsidies) require financing. In general, they impact differently in terms of equity: increasing or reducing inequality. Therefore, it does not matter which policies are prioritized and which are not, nor how it is decided to finance them.

In a context in which public discussions focus on austerity and the reduction of the fiscal deficit, at the same time that opinions are exacerbated that ignore the role of the State in guaranteeing human rights, it is essential that the public budget be analyzed and discuss it as what it truly should be: a tool to transform and improve reality and to define under what conditions resources that might be oriented towards rights are renounced.

Before the end of the year, Congress must discuss the Executive’s proposal and may make modifications upon approval. That is why we met in the Chamber of Deputies – where the budget debate begins – with deputies, advisors, representatives of civil society organizations and activists, to analyze the projected budget for 2024 and demand the allocation of adequate resources to guarantee rights under conditions of equality.

We are waiting for you in person or virtually this Friday, November 10, starting at 10 a.m., to analyze the items assigned to Environment, Mental Health, Gender and Diversity, and Housing. The activities will take place in Room 2 (Annex C) of the Chamber of Deputies, Rivadavia 1841, CABA.
