In addition to Odermatt’s grandfather, many other villagers are also very proud of their figurehead in skiing. In the afternoon, people gathered at the wooden structure in Buochs to see whether the gold medal had already been mounted by the responsible carpenter. “After the race, when we saw how much he had submitted, we immediately hung the Swiss flag on the balcony,” says Odermatt fan Werni Mathis.

The carpenter Stefan Barmettler built the wooden structure in Buochs. Whenever Marco Odermatt wins, another plaque is attached. Today, Barmettler was again quickly on site and completed the construction with the 25-year-old’s first world championship title. “I did not expect that. But after his trip I went straight to the carpenter’s shop,” says the carpenter proudly.

The celebration of Odermatt’s first world championship title continues on Sunday evening. The municipality of Buochs spontaneously organized a party. This begins at 7.30 p.m. in the Sternen restaurant.
