The Gilbert City Council approved Tuesday night a couple of amendmentsincluding one related to water use, that will allow Cactus Surf Park LLC to move forward to obtain building permits later this year.

Cactus Surf Park intends to develop a 25-acre surf park in Gilbert Regional Park near Queen Creek and Higley streets.

Planned features for the venue include a water park, surf lagoon, sandy beach, children’s play area, outdoor cabanas, on-site restaurant, banquet rooms and more facilities.

According to a city statement, Cactus Surf Park, LLC created a more efficient design that will use 60% less water than before while maintaining the same desired effect. Additionally, it was reported that the water used at Cactus Surf Park will not come from Arizona’s assigned water supply from the Colorado River. Cactus Surf Park will purchase and use reclaimed water credits delivered through the Town’s drinking water system.

The City Council approved the amendments unanimously via consent agenda, which required no discussion prior to voting.
