Cannes Film Festival kicks off with zombie comedy

The film festival begins tomorrow in Cannes, France, with the opening film by Michel Hazanavicius. “Coupez!” is a comedy set in an abandoned factory. A low-budget zombie film is to be shot there, which is getting out of hand.

The film by Hazanavicius (“The Artist”) is an adaptation of the Japanese cult film “One Cut of the Dead”. Because of the war in Ukraine, the film has a different title than originally planned. After complaints from Ukraine, Hazanavicius agreed to rename “Z (comme Z)” to “Coupez!”.

The American Oscar winner Forest Whitaker (60) is also expected tomorrow. This year he received the Golden Palm of Honour. Whitaker presents the film he produced “For the Sake of Peace” in Cannes. It is regarding people working for peace in South Sudan.

Cannes is considered one of the most important film festivals in the world, it lasts until May 28th. The main award of the film festival, which has been taking place since 1946, is the Golden Palm.
