This trio there, Suzanne, makes music from all woods, all strings, all hips, all metal, voice, skin, silence… It sometimes summons the deep voice of a grio, the soft melancholy of a bluesman, then the driving breath of a Honneger, the swing of a Geshwin, the haunting rhythm of a Phil Glass.
We thought we were there for a moment, installed in a melody, we are immediately elsewhere, carried away all voices outside, then the storm stops and the music hovers above the waters. We think we recognize an intonation, a line, a smile and immediately we doubt, Suzanne’s music escapes us, plays with our memories and our approximations, it comes back, soothed, enveloping. It’s not a trio, it’s a chamber orchestra, launched at breakneck speed aboard a Pacific 231, at breakneck speed in today’s music.
