Faced with this strong demand, an entire industry is getting organised. With one objective: to manufacture these cargo bikes in France. The Addbike company, in Villeurbanne, near Lyon, has just taken a step forward. “A few months ago, we were in a workshop, it was really craftsmanship”explains Renaud Colin, its founder, “today, we have moved to the pre-industrial stage, which allows us to intensify and increase the rate”.
Here, five brands use the same factory. Together, they hope to create a French production chain. “The perfect example is the pedal. Here, the idea is to get together and ask subcontractors to make pedals with common characteristics. We will be able to achieve French manufacturing at acceptable costs for the consumer. But that is time”continues Renaud Colin.
