With the merger of HBO Max with Discovery Plus, a new streaming platform called “Max” will emerge, as Oficina da Net reported in December 2022. As previously mentioned, this change was scheduled to take place in March and June 2023 and we have confirmation of this with the tweet from the official profile of HBO Max Brazil saying, “HBO Max will become Max in Brazil, bringing you HBO original titles, acclaimed series, movies, reality shows and more.” Now, according to the CNET website, the launch of the new platform is scheduled for May 23, 2023 in the US and there will be changes in the plans offered.

Change in values of Max’s plans?
There should be no changes in the amount charged when customers migrate from HBO Max to Max. In the US, there are two plans offered on HBO Max, the ad and the ad-free, and according to CNET, they will not change in price compared to the Max price list. That is, subscribers in Brazil will have to pay BRL 34.90 per month for the only existing plan in the country, but the benefits will change.

HBO Max subscription benefits will not be the same as Max
Currently, HBO Max offers a plan in Brazil that benefits from the transmission of up to 3 screens at the same time, 30 offline downloads and high definition content, including transmission in 4K resolution. With the arrival of Max, the plan equivalent to this one will be entitled to transmission of up to 2 screens at the same time, 30 offline downloads and content with a maximum resolution of Full HD (1080p).
As you may have noticed above, a screen has been removed from simultaneous transmission and the transmission of movies and series in 4K. The reason for this is that there will be a new plan on Max, which will be more expensive and will benefit from streaming up to 4 screens at the same time, 100 offline downloads and 4K resolution content. In the US, the difference between this plan and the more basic one is US$ 4, but it is not yet known how much will be charged for it in Brazil.

4K content on HBO Max has always been a weakness for the streaming service. It is currently possible to stream in 4K resolution only 39 titles on the platform, including House of the Dragon, Dune, Elvis, Game of Thrones, The Suicide Squad, among others.
